Mountain Men: Conflict and Influence
The interest in fur trade was reinstated because of the exploration of the west. An explorer named Manuel Lisa led trappers over to the west in search of valuable furs. From then on, trappers explored all over the west for animal fur. These trappers became known as mountain men. These mountain men were rugged and tough. The trappers set their traps during the spring and fall and traded their furs for supplies during summer. The fur trappers had very dangerous life and a lot of them died on the job. Mountain men were proud of their lives and enjoyed the freedom and adventure. The mountain men left a lasting legacy on the west. They explored most of the west through fur trapping. The mountain men pioneered the west through the rockies and deserts. They created the Oregon and California Trails. The trading posts that they created turned into supply stations. Lastly, the mountain men described their journeys across the west in journals. All in all, they changed the customs and west and created new traditions. The mountain men shaped part of the west and left a lasting legacy on the United States.
