Pioneer Women: Conflict and Influence
Women pioneers played a huge part in the settling of the West. The pioneer women helped shape our future and change the perspective of women. Pioneer women had to cook, wash clothes and take care of the children, all while traveling 15 to 20 miles a day. In addition, the number of deaths of the trail was high. People drowned, accidents happened, and disease killed many people. Also, there was the danger of an Indian attack. Through all this danger, most survived to build adventurous lives in the West. African American women were also part of pioneer groups. The journey West created a new life for the African American women who longed for freedom. The pioneer women developed their own legacy. The move westward changed the pioneer women. They overcame the hardships through toughness. Pioneer women created schools, churches, libraries, literary societies, and charitable groups. Soon enough, women were gaining their right to vote. They had the right to vote in four western states. The pioneer women enjoyed freedom and equality and helped spread equal treatment all over the U.S. This was the legacy left by the pioneer women.
